Proposed Directors & Investors
Peter B. Alden is an investor, director, and will serve as the proposed bank’s President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Alden most recently served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Community Bank & Trust Company in Wolfeboro. Mr. Alden joined CB&T as Vice President and Senior Loan Officer in 1999 and was elected President in 2001. Prior to joining the bank, Mr. Alden served as Vice President, Commercial Lending with New London Trust, in New London, New Hampshire. Prior to joining the New London Trust, Mr. Alden served as Vice President, Commercial Lending and Regional Manager with Centerpoint Bank, Bedford, New Hampshire from 1995 to 1998.
Peter has served as President of the Wolfeboro Area Chamber of Commerce and served on the boards of the Wolfeboro Area Recreation Association and VNA Hospice of Southern Carroll County. Mr. Alden also served on the New Hampshire Banker’s Trust.
He received BS and MBA degrees from Southern New Hampshire University. He is a resident of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.
James E. Bean is an investor and proposed director. Mr. Bean is the Chief Executive Officer of Wolfeboro Oil Company and is responsible for the day to day operations of the company. The company provides oil and propane gas services to residential, commercial, and institutional customers.
Jim has served on the Lakes Region Conservation Trust, Friends of Abenaki, March of Dimes, and Stamp Act Island Management Committee. He has coached and officiated area youth sports programs for over 30 years.
He holds an Associates Degree in Electronic Engineering from the New Hampshire Technical Institute. Jim is a resident of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.
Thomas S. Bigelow, CPA, CFP is an investor and proposed director. Mr. Bigelow earned his CPA certificate in 1977 and his CFP certificate in 2000. Tom is the President of the certified public accounting firm of Bigelow & Ashton, PA. The firm is a Registered Investment Advisor in the state of New Hampshire and Tom is the Investment Advisor Representative for the firm. Prior to starting his own firm he worked for the certified public accounting firms of Ernst & Young, Howe Riley and Howe, PLLC and Leone, Bigelow & McDonnell, PA (now known as Leone, McDonnell & Roberts, PA), where he served as Treasurer. Tom sat on the board of directors of First Signature Bank & Trust from 1990 until the bank was sold in a 2006, where he served on the Audit Committee.
Over the years, Tom has actively served in many civic and not-for profit organizations including the Boards of Huggins Hospital (Treasurer), United Way of Manchester, Rotary Club, Lions Club, Wentworth Economic Development Corporation, Camp Belknap and presently serves on the Board of Directors of Wolfeboro Area Recreation Association (Treasurer).
He holds a BS degree in Business Administration from the University of New Hampshire and an MBA from Lehigh University. Tom is a resident of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.
William L. Brower, Jr., CMA, CFM is an investor and proposed director. Mr. Brower is currently Chair Emeritus of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA®). Since obtaining his Certified Management Accountant (CMA®) credential in 1985, he has been an active member of IMA, serving terms as a member of the IMA National Board of Directors, Chair of the Governance Committee of the Board, Chair of the Planning and Development Committee, Chair of the Education Committee, and member of the Strategic Planning Committee. Bill also served on the Board of Regents of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants (ICMA). He was also a Trustee of the Foundation for Applied Research and a governor of the SCMS. He also served for four years as the United States representative to the Professional Accountants in Business (PAIB) committee of the International Federation of Accountants.
In 2006, Bill retired from Johnson & Johnson after 39 years holding the position of Vice President, Group Finance, Business Analysis. Prior this role, he was Vice President of Finance, Group Finance overseeing the Consumer Pharmaceutical, Nutritional Products, Specialty Pharmaceutical, Women's Health, and Urology franchises. Earlier he was Chief Financial Officer and member of the Board of McNeil Consumer & Specialty Pharmaceuticals and was Vice President, Finance and member of the Board for McNeil Pharmaceutical. Actively involved in Licensing and Acquisitions, he had been instrumental in leading numerous successful product additions to the Johnson & Johnson portfolio.
Mr. Brower received a BA in mathematics and a MBA degree from Lehigh University prior to joining Johnson & Johnson in 1967. He also served as an officer on active duty in the U.S. Army for two years. Bill resides in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire and is a resident of Jupiter, Florida.
David F. Dietz, Esquire is an investor and proposed director. Mr. Dietz is a partner at Goodwin Procter in the firm’s Business Law Department, and has a broad range of experience in corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions. He has represented issuers and underwriters in the public offering of debt and equity securities, as well as a number of private equity firms in both technology and acquisition financing. He is also a member of the firm's Private Equity and Technology Companies Groups. He is a director of CIRCOR International, Inc. (flow control products), The Andover Companies (property and casualty insurance), and High Liner Foods (USA), Inc. He is also secretary of a number of private companies, and serves on the Private Equity CFO Association's advisory board. Most recently he has been appointed by the Board of Directors of CIRCOR International as Lead Director for their Executive Sessions of all non-management Board Members. David holds a BA from Dartmouth College (cum laude) and a JD from Boston University (cum laude). He is a summer resident of Tuftonboro, New Hampshire and a resident of Boston, Massachusetts.
Richard L. Haskell, Jr. is an investor and proposed director. Mr. Haskell is an entrepreneur and in 1981 founded C&W Industries which has become one of the most respected businesses in the field of automotive remanufacturing. C&W employs over 60 people and has annual sales in excess of $5 million. Currently, Rick serves as the company’s CEO. He is a resident of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.
Jack B. Middleton, Esquire is an investor and proposed director. Mr. Middleton is the President of McLane, Graf, Raulerson & Middleton, Professional Association, the largest law firm in New Hampshire. Jack has practiced law at that firm since his admission to the New Hampshire Bar in 1956. He is a former President of the New Hampshire Bar Association, the New England Bar Association, the National Conference of Bar Presidents, a former Chair of the New Hampshire Bar Foundation, and a former President of the National Conference of Bar Foundations. Jack served on the Board of Governors of the American Bar Association for six years, and served as Secretary of the Association for three years. He also served for a total of 24 years as Associate Justice of the Bedford Municipal Court and Special Justice of the Merrimack District Court.
He continues to practice law at the McLane Law Firm where he is the Senior Litigation Director, and is also active in the area of Alternative Dispute Resolution.
Jack has also served in a variety of local, state and regional organizations, and in 2005 received the New Hampshire Business and Industry Association Lifetime Achievement Award and in 2006 the University of New Hampshire Alumni Association Pettee Award.
Jack received his BA degree in economics from Lafayette College and his JD degree from Boston University Law School. He also served on active duty in the United States Marine Corps from 1950 to 1952. Jack is a resident of Freedom, New Hampshire.
John N. Pernokas is an investor and proposed director. Mr. Pernokas retired from United Parcel Service in 1992 as the corporate manager for driver safety training and vehicle accident prevention. Upon retirement, John became a real estate developer and currently owns a downtown Wolfeboro retail and office complex.
He is a long time board member and president of the Wentworth Economic Development Corporation, past President of the Wolfeboro Rotary Club, founder and President of the Kingswood Youth Center, and a board member of the Wolfeboro Area Recreation Association. John and his wife Jill are major contributors and much involved in the activities at the 35 acre recreation park, “The Nick” dedicated to their late son, Nicholas. Mr. Pernokas was named Citizen of the Year for Wolfeboro in 2001.
John earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts and an MBA from American International College. He is a resident of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.
William H. Soupcoff, AIA is an investor and proposed director. He is a founding principal of the TMS Architects, a well known architectural firm located in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Since 1984, Bill has been responsible for the design, management, and construction administration of a variety of award winning residential, commercial, and corporate projects. His projects have ranged in size from a 900 square foot award winning Bishop’s Retreat in Newbury, Massachusetts to an estate on Lake Winnipesaukee that hosted the President of France this past summer.
He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and Chairman of the Newburyport YWCA Building Committee.
Bill received his BA in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati and his MA in Architecture from MIT. He is a resident of Newburyport, Massachusetts.
Brian C. Underwood, CRE, FRICS, ASA is the founder of the bank start-up entity, proposed director, and will serve as Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of the proposed bank. Mr. Underwood is principal of a regional real estate counseling and appraisal firm that performs assignments through the northeastern United States. The firm specializes in complex property types and providing real estate counseling services to developers, attorneys and lending institutions. He has been admitted as in expert witness in New Hampshire Superior Courts and the Federal court.
Brian has been awarded the CRE designation from the Counselors of Real Estate and is one of only four CREs in New Hampshire. In addition, he is also a fellow of the international Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, a designation awarded to less than 1% of the 120,000 RICS worldwide. The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors is the most respected and highest profile global organization for professionals involved in land, property, and construction. Mr. Underwood also holds the Accredited Senior Appraiser designation from the American Society of Appraisers.
Mr. Underwood is a trustee of the Mount Washington Observatory and has served in positions as Vice President and Treasurer over his 14 year tenure. He currently serves as Chairman of the Wolfeboro Zoning Board of Adjustment; a position he has held for the past 13 years. He is a resident of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.
